If you want to protect yourself, it is also not difficult, there are other types of visas that will give you confidence that the child will have Chilean citizenship - both by law and by UN resolutions. Some such visas are made in your country of permanent residence and you arrive in Chile with them (a rentier visa or a businessman/investor visa), some can be done on the spot, although the process will be somewhat more complicated.
